Project Overview
raSmith provided civil engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, and traffic engineering services for Mill Creek Academy, a new 45,000-square-foot, single-story charter school serving grades K through 8.
The school features a playground, basketball court, and an open field to support student recreation activities. A key design element was an extensive vehicle circulation system for student drop-off and pick-up. Since the school does not provide bus transportation, the design included a high-capacity traffic loop capable of holding approximately 400 vehicles on site.
Stormwater management was another critical component. raSmith designed four stormwater ponds to serve both the school and future adjacent outlot developments, which may include low-density commercial use. The team also worked closely with environmental consultants to coordinate infrastructure systems including private septic, domestic well, and a fire protection well system. While the underground fire suppression tanks were designed by others, raSmith integrated them into the overall site plan.
Surveying services included a full boundary and topographic survey, along with support in establishing a condominium plat for the school and future outlots. raSmith also conducted a traffic impact study and provided design services for roadway improvements along Highway 164 and Lawnsdale Road, including turn lanes and new driveways to minimize traffic disruption and enhance safety.
