Project Overview
raSmith provided transportation and traffic engineering, structural engineering, and surveying services for a six-mile resurfacing project along WIS 36 from WIS 120 to WIS 11 in Walworth County. The $3.2 million project included milling two inches of existing pavement and placing a new asphalt overlay along the corridor.
As part of this project, raSmith evaluated the existing culverts to determine repair, replacement, or upgrade needs, including new end walls and replacement of deteriorated pipe sections. Beam guard locations were also reviewed for compliance with current standards. Necessary replacements and adjustments were incorporated into the construction plans.
In the town of Lyons, the project included the reconstruction of curb ramps to meet ADA accessibility requirements. raSmith prepared a traditional plat to support the required right-of-way acquisition for the curb ramp improvements.
The project also incorporated the replacement of the WIS 36 bridge over Ore Creek. While the bridge itself was designed by WisDOT, raSmith designed the roadway approach reconstruction to integrate with the new structure.
Additionally, raSmith prepared structural repair plans for multiple bridges along the corridor, including:
- WIS 36 over the White River State Trail, featuring concrete surface repairs to the deck and substructure, as well as erosion repairs on the slope between the abutments and the trail.
- WIS 36 over the WIS 11 Bypass and White River, including concrete surface and deck repairs along with the application of a thin polymer overlay.
