Project Overview
A fatal crash at the County CB intersection with Oakridge Road and a history of severe and fatal crashes led Winnebago County to retain raSmith to design a single-lane rural roundabout. The roundabout was designed through WisDOT’s Local Program using Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding.
raSmith designed the County CB/Oakridge Road roundabout to be expandable to a multi-lane roundabout. It will accommodate future conversion of County CB to a four-lane divided roadway and meet future operational needs. Adjustments to pavement markings and minor curb and gutter/splitter island modifications will allow the roundabout to add another lane without full reconstruction.
raSmith’s responsibilities included traffic analysis, geometric layout, pavement marking, vertical profile design, storm sewer plans, public involvement, environmental documentation and permitting, preliminary and final plan production and documentation, and development of a right-of-way plat.
