Project Overview
South of West Bend, Wis., on County P are the Washington County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are just northwest of the County P and County PV intersection that required improvement to safety and greater peak-event traffic capacity.
The existing four-way stop condition was compared to traffic signals and a roundabout. After analysis, raSmith recommended the safety benefits and greater traffic efficiency of a one-lane roundabout. Commercial development at the southwest corner of the intersection was accommodated to minimize the impact on the business’s parking area. A Rodel traffic analysis was completed as were geometric layout, pavement marking, vertical design, public involvement meetings, design study report, environmental documentation and preliminary and final plan production and documentation.
