Project Overview
Red Arrow Park spans over 35 acres along the shores of Lake Michigan in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, serving as an important community destination and offering many recreational amenities such as tennis courts, a baseball diamond, playground equipment, and a walkway to the beach. The park also includes memorials honoring the Red Arrow 32nd Infantry Division. As part of a comprehensive outdoor park and recreation plan, the City of Manitowoc sought to improve the access, functionality, and safety of the walkway while capitalizing on the surrounding natural beauty and views of the lake.
The City selected raSmith to develop park design plans for improvements to the beach access, based on the firm’s extensive experience in developing public projects in communities throughout Wisconsin. In collaboration with the City and other stakeholders, the landscape architects at raSmith prepared conceptual site layout plans with 2D and 3D renderings to show better access to the beach, an event plaza with amphitheater seating, trail connections to the high school and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus trail, and improvements to a small recreational boat launch and parking lot. The design will also provide better access for people of all abilities to enjoy the waterfront.
