Project Overview
raSmith is providing comprehensive site design and surveying services for a $1.6 million, multi-phase restoration project at McAuley School in the West Chicago Elementary School District 33. The project will revitalize the district’s historic one-room schoolhouse, transforming it into a centralized hub for instructional coaches and a living educational resource that connects students and community members with the area’s history.
Supporting the project from planning through construction, raSmith’s services include civil schematic design, ALTA and topographic survey preparation, zoning approval assistance, construction documents, landscape architecture, permitting, and construction administration assistance. The firm’s multidisciplinary team has helped advance the redevelopment while navigating municipal requirements and preserving the site’s long-term functionality.
Site improvements include a new 20-space paved parking lot, reconfiguration of the existing westernmost curb connection to Roosevelt Road, and building upgrades designed to enhance accessibility, safety, and usability for staff and visitors. Together, these improvements will help ensure this facility can serve future generations while meeting modern operational needs.
The project’s significance is reflected in a $925,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, which is funding most of the total project cost. The investment underscores the value of preserving local history while creating new opportunities for educational engagement and community use.
