Jason Pietrusiewicz, ecologist with raSmith, a multi-disciplined civil and structural engineering and surveying firm, has achieved accreditation from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) as a Certified Endangered Resource Reviewer.
This WDNR certification enables Pietrusiewicz to conduct Endangered Resource Reviews (ER Reviews) and acquire the essential screening letters required for various land management, development, and planning projects on behalf of raSmith’s clients. A significant benefit of the ER Review is a shorter turnaround time than what is guaranteed by WDNR and a lower fee. This service may also aid in reducing potential conflicts with endangered resources by identifying, addressing, and developing solutions to these challenges much earlier in the planning process.
WDNR ER reviews assess the status of rare plants, animals, and habitats that are in danger of becoming extinct or that are in need of protection. The reviews involve the collection and review of data from surveys, research studies, and other sources to assess the current population status and trends of species or habitats, as well as potential threats to them. The reviews also involve an analysis of the ecological and economic values of the species or habitats, and an assessment of potential management strategies to protect them.
