Project Overview
Discount Tire Company, Inc. is the nation’s largest independent tire and wheel retailer with stores in 39 states. Since 2014, raSmith’s site design team has provided Discount Tire with multi-disciplinary services for more than 100 new retail stores across the United States.
For the development of a new prototype store in Crystal Lake, Illinois, raSmith delivered site design solutions to meet the project’s needs. Services included: a site investigation report, zoning approval assistance, civil engineering, landscape architecture, stormwater permitting, the preparation of a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP), surveying, and construction assistance.
This project required extensive coordination with the client and stakeholders to overcome site design challenges associated with the new prototype building layout. raSmith provided stormwater management to address limitations with the existing site’s low-capacity discharge pipe and meet the City of Crystal Lake ordinance. Truck-turn modeling was performed to simulate maneuvers, analyze stability, and design a safe route to support delivery operations on a 1.49-acre site. Additionally, the design included extensive landscaping to meet the City’s requirements while still providing visibility to the store.
