The site of a former auto dealership lot became the perfect urban setting for new luxury apartment homes. Mayfair Reserve, located in a bustling area of Wauwatosa, comprises 236 residential units, an enclosed heated parking garage, a passive courtyard and a pool courtyard.
raSmith’s landscape architects and civil engineers worked closely with the developer to create numerous design scenarios for outdoor living spaces. The final design provides the multi-family residential community with a passive courtyard containing a water feature, grilling station, pergolas and multiple seating areas. Additionally, a resort-style swimming pool, masonry gas fire pit, grilling station, pergola, raised masonry planters, and extensive landscape are all located in the pool courtyard.
Designing the site proved challenging due to many constraints such as access, terrain and adjacent land uses. For example, an architectural stone wall softened the relationship of the building’s front to the street frontage. Mixed plantings such as bold perennials, grasses and trees provided a pedestrian-scale transition between the building and the road.
