Highway Cross Culvert Replacement Program

Kenosha County, WI

Project Overview

Kenosha County retained raSmith to prepare design recommendations and plans for the Highway Cross Culvert Replacement Program at multiple locations within the County. Within the most recent program, three culvert sites were chosen for solicitation of contractor bids, while the other eight locations were chosen to be completed by County forces.

Specific to the three contractor-installed crossings, the work consisted of the replacement of existing dual 60-inch CMP culverts with dual 60-inch RCP culverts (CTH X), replacement of an existing 72-inch CMP culvert with a 8’ x 5’ reinforced box culvert (CTH Z), and replacement of an existing 72” x 60” CMP arch with a 58” x 91” horizontal elliptical RCP (CTH A). Within the CTH X site, the dual culverts were located within the 100-year floodway, which necessitated a Hydraulic & Hydrologic (H&H) model and report. The CTH X culverts also consisted of guardrail replacement and slope grading to DOT standards.

All three culvert sites required coordination and permitting with the DNR, which raSmith facilitated and helped to secure. At the CTH Z culvert, the roadway was also reconstructed to improve a substandard vertical curve.
