Shell Chemical Ethane Cracker Plant

Beaver County, PA

Project Overview

Shell Chemical is building a multi-billion dollar ethane cracker plant in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Delta Railroad Construction, a multi-million dollar national railroad contractor working with Shell, engaged raSmith to provide construction staking survey services. The work began in 2015 and has been ongoing since. Delta Railroad and raSmith have worked together on a variety of railroad projects (freight trains, trolley cars and streetcars) across the Northeastern United States since 2011.

Delta selected raSmith for construction staking at the ethane cracker plant based on Delta’s strong familiarity with raSmith’s quality work, responsiveness and professionalism. raSmith has gone beyond Delta’s expectations by finding more cost-effective, efficient ways to complete tasks that Delta would have otherwise handled themselves. In addition, our survey staff has assisted in creating profiles and alignments for temporary railroad tracks so that the railroad line could remain open during construction.

The new ethane cracker plant will take advantage of natural gas production in the Appalachian Region to extract ethane and produce ethylene which is found in pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals and consumer goods.
