STH 59 Waukesha South Bypass and Railroad Grade Separation
Waukesha County, Wisconsin

Awarded "2002 Best Consultant Urban Design, Statewide Excellence in Highway Design," Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation, "2002 Engineering Achievement Award," American Society of Civil Engineers, and an Honor Award from American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)

CTH OPlans and specifications were prepared for the reconstruction of a 3.6-mile, 4-lane divided facility. The project's challenges involved constructing a safe and efficient four-lane roadway through primary environmental corridors, including high quality wetlands, while gaining regulatory agency approvals and minimizing environmental impacts.

A unique typical roadway section was designed, consisting of a narrow urban median with outside shoulders.

The project scope included the design of two structures, a bicycle/pedestrian path, a Type II environmental assessment including a contaminated site assessment and several environmental studies, permit applications, and public information meetings/public hearing.
