Sustainable Design/LEED®

Cabela's
Richfield, Wisconsin

Stonebriar CentreThe Cabela’s site in Richfield, Wis. incorporated several unique sustainable landscape elements. Native, naturalized tree groves and open meadows were incorporated into the site design to give the site an “up north,” rural Wisconsin look. The design challenge was to try and make the landscape look as though it was there before the store was. There is no turfgrass anywhere on the site. The landscape design is further unique because it disguises the septic area in the northwest corner of the site by using native tree groves and meadow grasses.

Tumbled cobblestone pavers at the entry plaza provide an aesthetic appeal and help bring the color of the stone veneer used on the building down into the paving. This also helps break up the mass of concrete paving and leads customers to the store’s main entrance.

Another aspect of the site’s sustainability is the irrigation system. Quick couplers were designed to provide watering capabilities on an as-needed basis to conserve water. Only the main feature islands close to the store have an automated irrigation system equipped with rain sensors and timers.

Services provided included surveying, site planning, sitework engineering, landscape architecture, irrigation design, 3D visualization and coordination of traffic impact issues.
