Effigy Mounds Preserve Restoration Plan, City of Whitewater, Walworth County, Wisconsin
Effigy Mounds Preserve is one of the largest collections of effigy mounds in the country, built sometime between 800 – 1200 A.D. R.A. Smith National subcontracted to Jennings & Associates Landscape Architecture to provide a comprehensive park restoration plan that includes ecological restoration recommendations for the mounds and surrounding oak savanna. A stakeholder meeting was held with area residents, local experts, students and City staff to gain input on the long-term vision of this preserve. The input was incorporated into an updated park plan, which simplified the existing trail system, added parking and common space areas, and provided restoration recommendations for the mounds and surrounding natural areas.
