Patrick Hawley and Doug Senso, R.A. Smith National, Earn Roundabout Designer Certification

BROOKFIELD, WIS.  – Patrick Hawley and Doug Senso, project managers in the transportation division of R.A. Smith National (formerly R.A. Smith & Associates and its National Survey & Engineering Division) – civil engineering, planning, surveying, landscape architecture, GIS and 3D visualization consultants – recently earned Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) new roundabout certification as Level 1 Roundabout Designers (authorized to design single-lane roundabouts).The qualified designer status of Hawley (Brookfield office) and Senso (Appleton office) builds on their extensive roundabout involvement during the past 10 years. WisDOT'scertification process was established in 2008 to ensure all roundabout designs receive a high level of expertise throughout the project.

Hawley has 16 years of project management experience, specializing in traffic analysis, roundabouts analysis and design, transportation planning and parking. Hawley has been involved with the planning, operations and design of hundreds of roundabout projects in Wisconsin and throughout the U.S., including the series of five roundabouts along WIS 145 in Richfield (planned for 2009 construction) and the Wescott on Washington roundabout in Houston, Texas. He has worked extensively with WisDOT in completing roundabout reviews for more than 20 projects statewide. Hawley also presents regularly at conferences, publishes transportation articles in national and local publications, and teaches classes at Marquette University and through the University of Wisconsin system.

Hawley lives in Delafield, Wisconsin and works out of R.A. Smith National’s Brookfield office.

Senso has 16 years of experience in roadway design and transportation construction management. He has been involved in the design of more than 50 roundabouts in Wisconsin, a few of which include CTHP/CTH PV roundabout in Washington County, five roundabouts along the STH 145 corridor in Richfield, and 10 roundabouts along the STH 26 corridor in Watertown. Senso is also experienced in the design of urban and rural roadways, bridge approaches, railways, and pavement management.

Senso lives in Freedom, Wisconsin and works out of R.A. Smith National’s Appleton office.
