Richard Smith, President of R.A. Smith & Associates, Receives Professional Achievement Award from Marquette University

BROOKFIELD, WIS.  – Richard Smith, president of R.A. Smith & Associates, Inc. — civil engineering, planning, surveying, landscape architecture, GIS and 3D visualization consultants — Brookfield, Wis., accepted a Professional Achievement Award from the College of Engineering at Marquette University on April 27 at the Alumni Awards Dinner. Smith is a 1973 graduate of Marquette's College of Engineering and earned his master’s of science degree from Marquette in 1982.

With six offices, R.A. Smith & Associates, Inc. established in 1978, is one of the largest civil engineering firms in Wisconsin and one of the largest land surveying operations in the Midwest. The firm has worked on projects in 44 states, as well as the Caribbean, Canada and Spain, and has been recognized both regionally and nationally as one of the "best employers to work for."

In addition to his business enterprises, Smith remains involved at Marquette, serving on the Civil Engineering Advisory Board and the Bell Chair Advisors for the Associates in Commercial Real Estate (ACRE) program, aimed at bringing more minorities into the field of commercial real estate and the engineering co-operative program. Last year, Smith was recognized by the College with the Distinguished Service Award.

"Marquette has provided me the platform for my life and career," says Smith. "But my degrees are such a small part of what I've gained from attending Marquette." Smith and his wife, Joan, met at Marquette, continued there for graduate school and were later married in Gesu Church, located on Marquette's campus.

During Marquette University's Alumni Awards weekend, each college honors the contributions of its alumni and bestows awards on those demonstrating exceptional achievement.
